2025 GRID Endurance Performance Index

The 2025 GRID Endurance Performance Index (EPI) started with Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy as the co-leaders of the EPI after a dominant start to the season in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. However, it was far from a dominant season for them, as a second-half slump opened the EPI leaderboard to a record number of lead changes among several drivers.

However, one driver who climbed the EPI standings and eventually took the EPI World Championship was 20-year-old Oliver Gray from the European Le Mans Series. Gray’s season started with a second-place finish in the 4 Hours of Barcelona on April 6. His second start was the 4 Hours of Le Castellet at Circuit Paul Ricard, where he finished sixth in the race.

In the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Gray competed in the LMP2 class with the same VDS Panis Racing organization. Gray and his co-drivers, Esteban Masson and Franck Perera, finished second in class with their No. 48 Oreca 07-Gibson. This led to two consecutive ELMS wins at Imola and Spa-Francorchamps. Gray ended the season with one final win in the 4 Hours of Portimão in Portugal, where he and the VDS Panis team took home the ELMS LMP2 championship.

Gray’s teammate, Masson, came home in second place in the EPI after he lost points when he finished third in the FIA World Endurance Championship’s 6 Hours of Imola. The third-place finisher was Charles Weerts, who competed in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, the Intercontinental GT World Challenge and the 24 Hours of Nürburgring.

The 2024 GRID Endurance Performance Index (EPI) saw Dane Cameron win the GRID EPI outright after earning seven podium finishes in nine races, including two wins in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s Rolex 24 at Daytona and the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.

The driver of the No. 7 Porsche 963 for Porsche Penske Motorsport became the first American to win the GRID EPI World Championship, joining Sebastien Buemi and Ryo Hirakawa as EPI champions.

Andre Lotterer led for several weeks as he raced for Porsche Penske Motorsport in the FIA World Endurance Championship. In eight starts, Lotterer had two wins, and five podiums which helped him land in second place.

Both drivers claimed championships in their respective series. Porsche Penske Motorsport won the drivers’ and teams’ championships in IMSA and the drivers’ title in the WEC.

One of the biggest surprises of the 2024 GRID EPI was IndyCar regular Colton Herta finishing in third place, who became the first driver to finish in the top 10 of both the GRID EPI and the GRID Ranking in the same year. Herta drove the No. 40 Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Global Acura and earned his first overall win in the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring with co-drivers Jordan Taylor and Louis Deletraz.

2023 GRID Endurance Performance Index

The 2023 motorsports season was the first full year of the GRID Endurance Performance Index (EPI), which covers sports car racing. Introduced in 2022 for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the GRID EPI focuses on drivers in major sports car events. Raffaele Marciello won the inaugural GRID EPI in 2022.

However, in 2023, Marciello and over 100 different drivers scored in the EPI. As anticipated, the Toyota Gazoo Racing drivers from the FIA World Endurance Championship were the favorites for the first full-season championship. The question was which car and drivers would take top honors in 2023?

The No. 8 Toyota took the top honors, which ended in a tie between co-drivers Sebastien Buemi and Ryo Hirakawa for the 2023 title. This team only won two races but finished in second place four times, with one sixth place finish during the 2023 WEC season.

With the introduction of the GTP and Hypercar classes, more drivers are expected to compete in IMSA and WEC events in future seasons as the new prototype formula gains momentum. The prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans is the biggest race of the calendar year for the GRID EPI.
