FORT WORTH, Texas — Joey Logano bounced back after a post-race disqualification last weekend to earn his 37th career NASCAR Cup Series win with a hard-fought victory in the Würth 400 presented by Liqui Moly at Texas Motor Speedway.

Logano only led seven laps in the Lone Star State, but the three-time Cup Series champion found Victory Lane for the first time in 2025.

“The sport changes so quickly,” Logano said. “It’s crazy how you can just ride these roller coasters and just proud of the team. Finally, get AAA Insurance into Victory Lane. They’ve been a partner of mine since I’ve been to Penske, so 13, 14 years. I’ve yet to win with them. It was awesome to get that done here. The JL Kids Crew is here. We’ll have fun with them on Victory Lane. We had a really tough pit stall situation.

“The pit crew did a good job of managing that and just grabbed a couple here and there. The car was fast. I knew that yesterday. We just did a poor job qualifying. Just grinded it. Just keep grinding a couple here and a couple there and eventually get a win here. It’s nice to get one. Real nice.”

AAA

Trackhouse Racing’s Ross Chastain had his best finish of the 2025 season with a second-place result. He has been building momentum with the No. 1 team each week, and this was Chastain’s fifth top-seven finish in the last seven races.

“Starting 31st, we wanted to go +30 positions today,” Chastain said. “It’s all on this crew — the engineering group at Trackhouse Racing and the group at Chevrolet. We made an adjustment during the race and it fixed the car. All the problems we had yesterday and the start of the race, they were gone. I was confident. I was not confident yesterday… you heard me in the booth say it. With just one adjustment, it brought this Tootsies Chevy to life and that’s why you keep fighting.”

The other Team Penske driver that had a great day was Ryan Blaney’s No. 12 Menards/Knauf Ford. He earned his fourth top-five finish in the Cup Series this season. Arguably, Blaney has been the best driver in the sport without a victory this season, so the 2023 Cup Series champion was pretty defeated with his performance post-race.

“I don’t know,” Blaney said when asked about what more he could have done. “The one time I didn’t pick the outside, the 71 (Michael McDowell) got the lead and then I couldn’t get it back. Just driver making dumb decisions and not doing his job. I appreciate the team. The 12 car was a fast car today. I just can’t do anything right currently. Hopefully it will work itself out.”

Texas Heartbreak

Multiple drivers were putting together great runs before something dramatic ended their days. Those drivers included Michael McDowell, Josh Berry, Carson Hocevar, Austin Cindric and Bubba Wallace.

McDowell was holding on strong toward the front of the field for the latter part of the final stage. After Joey Logano passed him, McDowell quickly fell back and was involved in a huge crash that ended his day.

“I just really hate it for everyone on this No. 71 Delaware Life Chevrolet team,” McDowell said. “We were giving it everything we had there to try to keep track position. Joey (Logano) got a run there, and I tried to block it. I went as far as I think you could probably go.

“When (Ryan) Blaney slid in front of me, it just took the air off of it and I just lost the back of it. I still had the fight in me, but I probably should have conceded at that point. Just proud of everyone at Spire Motorsports. I know that’s not the day that we wanted, but we had the opportunity to win the race.”

McDowell Crash

Hocevar, McDowell’s teammate, earned his first career pole, finished in sixth in both stages and led 22 laps. Unfortunately for Hocevar, he was involved in a late-race incident that also took Stage 1 winner Cindric out of contention.

Berry was leading for 41 straight laps before spinning out and crashing in dramatic fashion.

Wallace was running inside the top 10 before hitting the wall on the backstretch, causing an accident that took out multiple cars. Wallace took full responsibility for the accident, and this was also the 23XI Racing driver’s first finish outside the top 30 since last June at New Hampshire.

Other Race Facts

Legacy Motor Club’s Erik Jones earned a hard-fought top five in his 300th career NASCAR Cup Series start. This was Jones’ first top five on a non-superspeedway since the 2023 Kansas fall race.

“It was a sloppy day in a lot of ways,” Jones said. “We had two pit road penalties, but just happy to come back from it and get a top five. It would have been pretty disappointing to have a car this good, kind of our first car this year that’s been pretty strong to throw it away. I thought we were headed that way, but it turned out well. Thankful for Advent Health, Legacy Motor Club, and Toyota to get a good run and hopefully we can get rolling. I would love this to be the start of our summer stretch and just keep it going.”

His teammate, John Hunter Nemechek, also had a top-10 finish as the driver of the No. 42 Dollar Tree Toyota finished eighth. This was his second top 10 of the 2025 season and his first non-superspeedway top 10 since the 2024 Las Vegas fall race.

“It means a lot,” Nemechek said. “We unloaded with speed this week, which was nice, in practice. Had good long run speed — guys brought a fast Dollar Tree Toyota Camry XSE. It was an up-and-down day for us. Just kind of all over the place with what we had. Glad to come home eighth. The last couple of restarts were tough with the positions that we were in. I’ve got to get better from a driver’s standpoint, racing up towards the front, but I haven’t had any chances at that, so progressing and learning.”

According to NASCAR Insights, Logano starting 27th was the worst starting spot he’s ever had in a race that saw him end up in Victory Lane.

With Denny Hamlin’s early engine troubles that caused him to finish last and DNF, his lead lap finish streak came to an end at 21 races. It was the eighth-longest streak in Cup Series history.

According to motorsports journalist Seth Eggert, Logano’s win the following week after a disqualification is the first time that has ever happened in the modern era.

GRID Ranking

There is a new leader in the NASCAR GRID Rating as Kyle Larson has overtaken Christopher Bell for the top spot. Larson’s top-five performance and most points scored in the race among all drivers helped him dethrone Bell. Denny Hamlin and William Byron remain third and fourth, with Ryan Blaney joining the GRID Rating in fifth.

The next race on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule is the AdventHealth 400 at Kansas Speedway on Sunday, May 11. Coverage will begin at 3 p.m. ET on FS1.
